Those of us gentlefolk who served time in the Medway and Swale areas in the 70’s and 80’s will need no introduction to our guest on this page. It is of course none other than old Bess the loveable Police canine that served for many years beside us in the fight against crime and disorder and the occasional football match. I hasten to add also before Health and Safety orders and the present culture of ambulance chasing that we now have to live with. Those were the days, when you could set your dog to nibble and let him or her go to work, clearing a street in minutes. Oh and did I mention that she ran a handler, a funny chap by the name of Ted Wright? Well readers, read on, because we have some good news about two books that I think will be of great interest to both old and new of the job and any dog lovers.

My first book is written through the eyes (and thoughts) of Bess herself and she tells of the fun we had amidst all the good arrests and fights that we stopped as we worked Medway. A lot of serious stuff but because I am who I am, there was a lot of humour too. Like when she caught up with two streakers in Dock Road!

Oops, no pen to paper on that one!

I have been told that it  'has an engaging and unusual style' by a respected critic.

Following promotion to be East Kent Dog Skipper,  I disappeared from the face of the earth as far as Medway was concerned.   In that position I worked Bomb Dog Mitch and was involved in some pretty interesting jobs, not least of all the tragic murder of the Royal Marines Bandsmen at Deal barracks. Mitch also became the first dog to find explosives (stolen from an army depot.) I have now recounted many things that the public were not privy to at the time.

Have you read Ted Wright's books yet? Now available on Kindle, and all readers! If you like dogs and have a sense of humour, these are definitely for you!
